East Chapel Hill girls run to perfection

CLEMMONS - East Chapel Hill's girls cross country team picked the perfect time for a near-perfect race.

The Wildcats' depth was showcased in a very close four-team battle for the team title Saturday in the 4-A girls state championships at Tanglewood.

East got key finishes from its third, fourth and fifth runners to go along with the individual runner-up finish of Carolyn Baskir (18:24.42) and 15th- place run by Caitie Safrit to key an 11-point advantage over state runner-up Green Hope.

"All seven of our girls had to get on the line and run the perfect race for us to win," Wildcats coach Steve Marquis said. "It was an awesome
